Ireland is a picturesque country with low-lying mountains surrounding a gently rolling plain. Several navigable rivers extend inland.
The island is blessed with lush vegetation due to its mild oceanic climate that avoids extreme temperatures.
Thick woodlands once covered this beautiful island, but deforestation took its toll. Today twenty six mammal species native to the land are extinct.
Politically the island is divided into two, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Relations between Ireland and Canada have been close and in recent years the interests and values shared by these two countries have further strengthened the relationship.
The two countries share dialogues and cooperation on development assistance, education, healthcare, and in social and economic policies. The Canadian Embassy in Ireland is located in Dublin.
